US Farm-Raised Catfish Featured At Sustainable Seafood Event
Monterey CA (SPX) Jun 08, 2009 U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish was recently featured at The Monterey Bay Aquarium's annual Cooking for Solutions, an event that celebrates sustainable, earth-friendly seafood products. The Catfish Institute, the marketing arm of the U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish industry, has been a sponsor of the event for the last three years. Over the course of this year's event more than 12,000 people were able to taste and learn about this fish's many attributes. U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish is listed once again as one of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch "Best Choices" in their "Sustainable Seafood Guide." This guide names the best choices for seafood that is abundant, well managed and caught or farmed in eco-friendly ways. Regina Charboneau, chef/owner of the Inn at Twin Oaks in Natchez, MS, served as The Catfish Institute's celebrity guest-chef at the Friday night Gala. She prepared a U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish-Andouille Creole dish for the more than 2,200 attendees, which included many distinguished chefs, media representatives and consumers interested in sustainable practices. "Sustainable, Low Carbon Footprint, Eco-friendly, and Green are heard so often these days," said Roger Barlow, president of The Catfish Institute, "and all of these readily describe U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish. We appreciate Chef Charboneau demonstrating one of the ways that our mild, versatile fish can be used to create healthy and delicious dishes. We always enjoy the opportunity to share the U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish story and also to support the outstanding efforts of the Monterey Bay Aquarium." Alton Brown, of Food Network's Good Eats and the Iron Chef America series, hosted Cooking for Solutions; Brown was also named the Monterey Bay Aquarium's 2009 Educator of the Year.
